Rescreen or Repair? How to Decide for Your Pool Cage

A practical rule of thumb for choosing between patching panels and a full pool screen rescreen.

The 30% Rule of Thumb

If more than roughly 30% of your panels are torn, faded or sagging, a full rescreen almost always costs less over time than repeated patching.

Check the Mesh Color

Hold a flashlight behind the screen at night or view panels against bright sky. Mesh that looks gray or washed out instead of dark charcoal has lost its UV coating and will tear more easily.

Consider the Cage Age

Screens typically last 8โ€“12 years. A cage from the 1980s or 1990s that has never been fully rescreened, common in Pembroke Pines, Cooper City and Davie, is a strong candidate for full replacement.

Compare the Numbers

Single panels run $35โ€“$65 each. Standard 400โ€“600 sq ft rescreens typically run $900โ€“$1,600. If you are replacing many panels, the totals converge quickly. See the cost guide.
